News R&D doesn’t always have to be expensive.
The way forward for news is to innovate and experiment with new technologies. But not every news organization has a big budget to innovate with experimental technologies that may never see the light of the day.
Enter my idea - a crowd-sourced platform to get ideas from the public on how to tell news. The core of any research function is to the listen to the audience. I am building an R&D or rather, a repository of ideas that can be implemented by any newsroom and scaled without hassle (and without a hole in your pocket).
I plan to scale up my project as an independent website, with a call to action for new projects. Each project will be assessed against set KPIs, following which the best ones will be featured on the website. The projects (and founders) will also discuss their ideas on our R&D podcast, which will be published once a week.
Once we have a good repository of ideas, we’ll start pitching to major publications.
